Frequently Asked Questions
What do I wear to my newborn session?
My biggest pieces of advice are to dress how you are comfortable, in a way that shows your personalities and still feels easy. I have to style my family of 5 for our own photos, so I know how much work and pressure this can turn into… don’t stress. Start with the most difficult person and build on that. I offer styling and specific recommendations for each type of session that I offer and I also have a studio closet that every client has access to. I have gown options for mom, and boutique clothes for kids. I’ll work right along side you to give you detailed advice, access to the studio closet, and help you bring your style to life. Either way, you’re going to look great!
What do i bring to my newborn session?
Literally just milk. If this is your first child, you’ll find out pretty quickly what your baby needs, and you’ll come with that [which is usually way too much, why do babies need so much stuff?] If anything is forgotten I provide Postpartum care for mom, pacifiers, bottles, diapers, wipes and burp clothes. Specifically, for the session, I provide all of the items needed for the photography; from headbands and hats, to buckets and bears and everything in between. If you have an idea to bring something unique/special to your family, that is encouraged. There will be an opportunity prior to your session for us to make that plan together.
How many images do you give?
Each session lists specifically how many images it comes with and there’s always opportunity for more for a fuller gallery of all the moments we capture.
How much is a newborn session?
I have so many options! Shoot me a message and I’ll get you the full pricing menu, where I overshare every detail of about my work and services.
What do I get with my session?
All of my session’s fees include the shoot itself, x amount of digital images and print release. I don’t want anyone making an investment in my services and not having something to show for it. If you pay me to photograph you, you walk away with digital files. I highly encourage families to print their products through me and the professional lab for quality products that represent my work and your investment.
HWere should we have our outdoor session?
Do I! But, first, I encourage you to think about you. What’s your style, what look are you going for? My style is documentary and candid, but are you homebodies? Let’s hang in your living room! Are you adventurers? I’ll hike with you! Beer or wine connoisseur? Take me to your fav brewery! Coffee shops add a modern flare. Parks are beautiful and have some of the best lighting. Cityscapes and sidewalks make a great backdrop. Make it about you, these are your photos.
What will my older children do, during a 3 hour newborn session?
Probably get super antsy, throw out at least one tantrum and complain of boredom. That’s why family and sibling shots happen when toddlers and all family members are most comfortable, but before too much time has passed.I encourage you to make yourselves at home. Not only for toddlers and children, but if you’re feelin’ a nap, take it! My studio space is open, there’s seating for the family and you can see me and baby the whole time. Bonus feature of a home studio is that I often bring in age appropriate toys or activities that my own kids love. Another clever option I’ve seen is some parents bring an extra person in an extra vehicle [or mom and dad drive separate] so that someone can leave with the kids after their part of the shoot is over.
Can I swap out products or services in bundled collections?
Most of my collections are pretty cut and dry. I do have a few that I’ve very carefully bundled and priced out for special rates. If the collections aren’t meeting your needs, i encourage you to let me know that. If you can be open with me about what you’re thinking about booking and what your budget is I can do my best to make adjustments that can accomodate all of us. I don’t offer discounts on my services, but I can help you get the most bang for your buck when you’re clear with me about your needs.
What if my kids don’t cooperate?
From toddler to teen and everything in between… my expectations stay pretty low. HA! Listen, I don’t like being in front of the camera. It’s awkward, what do I do with my hands, all of the attention is on me and It’s making me sweaty. Being photographed can be totally weird for adults, so why should we expect it to be any different for our kids? I’m pretty great at bringing kids out of their shells through the power of play [with the exception of 10-12 year old boys… they’re stubborn] . No one wants a boring “look here and smile” session flow, it’s too awkward and fake. I’m all about interaction and bringing out personalities. In extreme cases [like sleepy 2 year olds or “too cool for school” tween boys] it’s just your season of life that you’re documenting, attitudes included, and I pride myself in turning those challenging moments into candid memories.
How soon will I get my photos?
I’m pretty good at getting myself or my family in front of the camera a few times a year, and I’m also notorious for wanting the photos back immediately. Contractually, I’ll tell you 3 weeks turn around time. But from January to August, I do my best to get them back even quicker. Busy season [Septemeber to December] is true to the 3 week mark.
How do I book?
Will it date me if I quote the Kim Possible intro song? I’ll spare you… but, you can click here to fill out my contact form, find me on social media and DM me, or my contact number is at the bottom of all of my web pages. E-mail is how I’ll send you the pricing menu, but once you’ve looked it over at least once, we can meet up in person, text or jump on a phone or facetime date, to answer questions and get to know each other better.
